We seek two skilled developers to build new features for Booksnake, an iPhone/iPad app in development at USC. Booksnake uses augmented reality to let users explore digitized historical maps, newspapers, photographs, and more in the real world. Learn more at the main project website: booksnake.app.
Each position pays $3000 for between 8 and 10 hours per week during the 2025–2026 academic year ($1500/semester). These positions are research fellowships funded by the USC Undergraduate Research Associates Program (URAP).
You’ll work remotely and set your own schedule, with regular benchmarks and team meetings every two weeks. We welcome creativity. There are significant opportunities to shape this position around your interests and goals. You’ll join a small, focused development team, with opportunities to participate in every step of the mobile app development process, from ideation to iteration to beta-testing to publishing.
Position requirements:
- Required: Experience and familiarity with iOS development, using Swift, SwiftUI, Xcode, TestFlight, and other Apple development tools.
- Required: Demonstrated ability to coordinate with other team members; to clearly communicate technical work; and to engage in sustained self-directed work.
- Required: Experience and familiarity with GitHub, especially good push/fetch/merge/commit practices.
- Required: Experience or familiarity working in at least one of the following areas:
- Core Data
- ARKit and RealityKit
- NLP using Swift’s Natural Language framework
- Computer vision and machine learning
- Eligibility: The position is open to USC undergraduate students. URAP limitations apply: You must be enrolled in at least 12 units/semester; may not also receive funding from PURF, CURVE, SOAR, or SURF during AY2025-26; and may not be enrolled in a Progressive Degree Program (PDP) or a 490 (directed research class) during AY2025-26.
